Grantham is worth a stop to see the rolling green hills, the clear blue lake of Eastman, or the old barns and farms on Route 10. There’s also a thriving business community offering goods from toys to quilts to art and services from landscaping to dance classes. Eastman, a planned community in Grantham, offers golf, swimming and cross country skiing to residents, guests and visitors.

With a picnic table, garbage can and a brown sign that says “Brookside Park,” this park looks like just a turnaround on Route 10 North. But when it is hot and humid, this is a great place to take the kids. There are shady spots by the running brook to sit and dip your feet — and there are spots where you can sit on a rock in the brook with water up to your neck. You can even walk from rock to rock and make your way down the brook. Before you know it, you will have made your way down the length of Route 10, getting exercise while taking a break from the hot summer sun.

The Grantham Café, new to town, has a movie-theme decor (the owner also owns the video store next door). Open from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m., it's a great place for a homestyle breakfast or lunch.
